Early in the morning, our representative will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan by a private air-conditioned vehicle. Sit back and enjoy a scenic drive through the desert toward Abu Simbel, approximately 3.5 hours each way.
Upon arrival, begin your guided exploration of the magnificent Abu Simbel Temples, carved into a sandstone cliff during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC.
The Great Temple of Ramses II
Marvel at the colossal statues of Ramses II guarding the entrance of the Great Sun Temple. Inside, admire beautifully preserved wall reliefs depicting Ramses II’s legendary victory at the Battle of Kadesh, along with representations of the gods Amun-Re, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and Ramses himself. Your guide will also explain the temple’s famous solar alignment phenomenon, a remarkable feat of ancient engineering.
The Temple of Queen Nefertari
Just north of the main temple lies the stunning Temple of Queen Nefertari, dedicated to Hathor, goddess of love and beauty. Uniquely, Queen Nefertari’s statues are carved at the same height as the king—an exceptional honor in ancient Egypt—highlighting her importance as Ramses II’s most beloved wife.
Your guide will share the incredible story of how both temples were relocated in the 1960s with international cooperation led by UNESCO, saving them from submersion after the construction of the Aswan High Dam—one of the greatest archaeological rescue operations in history.
After completing your visit, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then relax during the comfortable drive back to Aswan.
Upon arrival, you will be transferred safely back to your hotel, ending your memorable Abu Simbel day trip.
