This tour can also be joined from Cappadocia upon request.

Yazılıkaya Open-Air Sanctuary

Before entering the main capital, we visit Yazılıkaya, the sacred open-air sanctuary of the Hittites.

Here, sunlight illuminates remarkable rock-carved reliefs depicting:

  • Hittite gods and goddesses

  • Mythological processions

  • Royal figures and symbolic deities

This site played a central role in Hittite religious ceremonies and seasonal festivals.

Lunch

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, featuring traditional Anatolian flavors.

Hattusa – Capital of the Hittite Empire

After lunch, we explore Hattusa, once the political and religious center of the Hittite Kingdom, which ruled Anatolia between the 18th and 12th centuries BC.

Highlights include:

  • Lion Gate – symbol of royal power

  • King’s Gate with warrior reliefs

  • Royal Citadel & temples

  • Ancient tunnels and fortifications

  • Urban planning and monumental architecture of the Bronze Age

The Hittites & World History

The Hittites were an Indo-European civilization who migrated into Anatolia and merged with the indigenous Hatti people, creating a powerful Bronze Age empire.

They were pioneers in:

  • Chariot warfare

  • Advanced diplomacy

  • Written international treaties

After their famous battle with Pharaoh Ramses II of Egypt, the Hittites signed the world’s first known peace treaty, written on clay tablets — remarkably co-signed by women, a unique moment in ancient diplomacy.

Evening – Return

After the full-day guided exploration of Hittite heritage, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Istanbul.
Upon arrival, meet our staff and transfer back to your hotel.

Guests joining from Cappadocia will be transferred back to their hotel there.
